At Frome Vale Academy we fully support the ‘closing of the gap’ agenda which fuels the allocation of Pupil Premium money. Every child deserves to achieve of the best they can be.
Pupil Premium
We can support children in the provision we provide. For us, academic achievement is very important as this offers life chances- it opens doors to potential futures careers and a sustainable existence in our society. However, we very much also believe in the importance of giving children experiences that might be outside of their current life experiences. Both are ‘aspiration-linked’ in terms of widening opportunities and in enabling children to be able to access further possibilities in their futures.
We believe in:
• Widening children’s experiences beyond their home experiences and giving choices;
• Supporting the ‘whole’ child with both academic and pastoral support;
• Supporting children to access learning opportunities- being in a ‘place’ (physical, emotional) to learn;
• Offering equality of opportunity to all in consideration of our school’s contextual data
What is the Pupil Premium?
The Department of Education introduced the Pupil Premium in April 2011. The Pupil Premium is additional funding paid to our Academy in respect of disadvantaged pupils (pupils who have been registered for free schools meals (FSM) at any point in the last six years or are looked after continuously by the local authority for more than six months). We receive this funding to support our eligible pupils and narrow the attainment gap between them and their peers.

Sports Premium
Playing sports helps to keep people healthy and is good for communities. Playing sport at school or in a local club could be the first step to a competition at the highest level. Frome Vale Academy is committed in to providing all pupils with the opportunity to have regular exercise, developing sports skills and (in KS2) take part in inter-school competitions.
From April 2013 the government announced additional funding for schools to help improve the quality and breadth of sports provision.
